Mike Wagers

Mike Wagers has spent more than 25 years at the intersection of policing, technology, and public safety, working across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to improve the profession for both officers and the communities they serve.

He serves as Chief Customer Officer at Axon, the publicly traded global leader in public safety technology and an S&P 500 company known for its ecosystem of connected devices, cloud software, and AI solutions used by public safety agencies around the world.

Before Axon, Mike led the justice and public safety practice at Amazon Web Services, working with agencies to modernize operations through cloud and emerging technologies. Earlier, he served as Chief Operating Officer of the Seattle Police Department, where he led efforts to reduce crime through innovative approaches, including the integration of technology into day-to-day policing. He was also Director of Law Enforcement Operations at the International Association of Chiefs of Police, working closely with state police and highway patrol leaders across the United States and Canada, and was the founding Executive Director of the Police Institute at Rutgers University.

Mike is also an angel investor and advisor to several public safety startups, helping bring new technologies and ideas to the field.

He writes The Weekly Briefing, a Substack newsletter popular with law enforcement leaders across the country and hosts a related podcast on policing and technology. He also co-hosts the Boldly Go podcast with Rick Smith. He holds a Ph.D. from the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice.
